HEMSPAN’S First Hemp CPD Event – Who’s Talking?
News
By Dermot MooreWednesday, September 28, 2022, will see Cambridgeshire play host to the first of what we hope to be many educational hemp events as Hemspan® collaborates with Margent Farm.
This event combines the expertise and experience of hemp producers, architects and distributors. On the day, they will demonstrate how to introduce natural materials to design and construction.
Here’s a brief intro to our host and speakers for those who cannot attend. We will also film the day and release the presentation and highlights.
Our Host
Steve Barron, our co-founder and owner of Margent Farm, has experience with the trials and delights of growing hemp. Steve is primarily a filmmaker, but he has segued into hemp with the birth of his first grandchild. As a result of this landmark event, he began contemplating how to contribute to a healthier world for future generations. Steve will give a tour of the hemp field before its final harvest!
The Architects
Professor Tom Woolley is a former Professor of Architecture at Queens University, Belfast, multi-published author and editor of the award-winning Green Building Digest. Tom now works with Rachel Bevan Architects in County Down, Ireland. He is excited by hemp beyond design and construction in a regenerative farming capacity.
Jeremy Blake, Founder of Jeremy Blake Architects, has over 40 years of experience in design with specialisations in sustainability and hospitality. Building heritage and conservation are primary concerns for Jeremy, demonstrated by his work with BREEAM, “The world’s leading science-based suite of validation and certification systems for a sustainable built environment”. In his experience, Jeremy has noticed architects tend to focus on energy and water conservation over thermal performance of a building. Hemp stands out as a tool to counter this imbalance in construction.
The Distributor
Finally, The Hemp Block Company will demonstrate how hemp materials are applied in construction. The company is built upon principles of health, sustainability and efficiency. In their demonstration, we will see just how hemp’s thermal power is enacted.
We hope you can join us…
